When Jesus walked on earth, He spoke of the future impact of His life. In Luke 12:51, Jesus said, “Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.”
As much as Jesus unites His followers around Him, to those who reject Him, He is the source of division. This contrast between belief and unbelief is dramatically portrayed in today’s passage.
