Is the Christian life a playground or a battleground to you? Sadly, many believers treat their time on earth as a playground. Songs like “Onward Christian Soldiers” perplex them because they cannot identify with spiritual warfare. But, we are in a battle! 2 Timothy 2:3-4 exhorts us to have a soldier-like attitude to life. In today’s passage, we discover three actions of a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
1. Good soldiers of Jesus Christ will boldly declare their beliefs, vv. 8-10.
2. Good soldiers of Jesus Christ will practically demonstrate their beliefs, vv. 11-17.
3. Good soldiers of Jesus Christ will be radically devoted to their beliefs, vv. 18-20.
The old hymn by Isaac Watts asks a penetrating question, “Am I a soldier of the cross, a follower of the Lamb? And shall I fear to own His cause or blush to speak His Name?
