In his book, When God Whispers Your Name, Max Lucado quoted a thought-provoking poem that reads:
If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent an educator.
If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent a scientist.
If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent an economist.
But since our greatest need was forgiveness, God sent us a Savior.

We are exploring the four times the Apostle John stated in the book of 1 John why the Son of God appeared. Last week, we learned from chapter 1:1-4 that Jesus appeared to display eternal life. Today, we discover that Jesus appeared to take away our sins. Three declarations combine to proclaim this purpose of His appearing.
· Declaration #1: The depraved conduct of humanity, v. 4.
· Declaration #2: The divine character of Jesus, v. 5.
· Declaration #3: The distinctive contrast of the believer, v. 6.
Have you allowed Jesus to take away your sins?
