Nearing the end of our Church-Wide Study on The Treasure Principle, we have been looking at some scriptural keys to help us unlock this principle. Today we examine the sixth and final key.
The Treasure Principle
"You can't take it with you, but you can send it on ahead."
Key #6: God prospers us not to raise our standard of living, but to raise our standard of giving.
In 1 Timothy 6:17-19, Paul gave Spirit-inspired instruction to a young pastor, Timothy, who was shepherding a wealthy church, the church in Ephesus. He pointed out three challenges faced by wealthy believers in the proper use that wealth to please God.
First Challenge: Tests of wealth, v. 17
Second Challenge: Tasks of wealth, v. 18
Third Challenge: Tension of wealth, v. 19
- How do you view an increase in your income? A blessing or a test?
- Do you do more than just throw money at a need?
- Do you give your time and abilities too?
- Are you gaining more and more on earth, or giving more and more for heaven?
