The place of women in the local church is a question of ongoing controversy in today's church. This is nothing new. The question goes all the way back to the first-century church at Corinth. In our passage today, Paul addresses this question. It is significant to note that his instructions immediately follow the subject of dealing with questionable matters in chapters 8-10. The basic truth of those chapters is love limits liberty. It appears that the same truth is given for the ministry of women in the church. In fact, this passage emphasizes that all of us are under authority.
