Probably one of the most important ways of “living by The Book” is “marriage by The Book.” Last week we discovered that marriage is so difficult because of the entrance of sin that brought selfishness, blame-shifting, and excuse-making. On top of that, God pronounced a curse upon the man and woman in the areas of their lives that means the most to them — significance and security. God did this to drive us to Himself! In today’s passage, we discover that our most important task in marriage is to make our spouse feel secure and significant. Three commitments will help us pull that off.
Commitment #1 — To meet the deepest needs of my spouse, I will follow after God’s call, vv. 22-33.
Commitment #2 — To meet the deepest needs of my spouse, I will yield to the Spirit’s control, vv. 18-23.
Commitment #3 — To meet the deepest needs of my spouse, I will take in God’s Word, Colossians 3:16-19.
Have you received God’s Spirit in salvation?
Will you accept His call?
Will you take in His Word?
