On several occasions in the first ten chapters of John, Jesus made a bold claim of deity (5:17-18; 8:58; and 10:30). You will notice that the last one is the final verse of today’s passage. This claim was perhaps the most audacious of all — “I and the Father are one.” What led up to such a bold statement?
