There is a word that only appears twice in the Greek New Testament. Poiema has the idea of a work of art, a masterpiece. The first place it appears is Romans 1:20 in reference to the created world. It is not hard to think of creation as God’s masterpiece. There are so many incredibly beautiful scenes of nature. The second occurrence of this word is in Ephesians 2:10. “For we are His workmanship. . .” We are His work of art, His masterpiece!
In this passage there are four components to the creation of a Christian or the making of a masterpiece.
- The Raw Material, vv. 1-3
- The Divine Artist, v. 4
- The Finished Product, vv. 5-6

Because of God’s grace, we will be His masterpiece put on display for all eternity. We should be His masterpiece on display now by our good works.
