In the first 26 verses of John chapter four, Jesus was engaged in a master course in personal evangelism. He created a thirst in a needy woman by being full of grace with her (vv. 7-15). We learned how truth must also be a part of every evangelistic encounter in verses 16-26.
What about the disciples? They were off buying food this whole time. Were they to be totally left out of the loop? After the woman left, Jesus took the opportunity to impress upon the minds of the disciples some lessons of the harvest.
• Priorities of the harvest, vv. 31-34.
• Principles of the harvest, vv. 35-38.
• Practice of the harvest, vv. 39-42.
Jesus also said in Matthew 9:37, “The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few. . .”
