River Cities Community Church was established in 1969 as Souls for Christ Baptist Church with 142 charter members. The founding pastor, James K. Poe, faithfully served the church from 1969 to 1985. Pastor Larry A. Greene, began his ministry in June, 1996 as the fourth pastor of the church.
For over 30 years our church has been known in the community as the "the round church". This unique structure was erected in 1973. The gymnasium and classrooms were added in 1975, the current adult education building in 1977, and the youth building in 2012. We are grateful to the Lord for His provision and are debt-free.
The impact of our church through the years is seen in the lives of those who have been sent out of the church into full-time ministry. Missionaries sent from our church include Leo Mullarky, Ed Carter, Carl Hewlett, Michael and Laura Clary, Kitty (Calvert) Hurdle, Dan Maloy, Tim and Kristen Stover, and Kai Gibbons. They are reaching people for Christ at home and abroad.
In order to more effectively reach our world for Christ, changing times demand changing methods. Such was the rationale for changing the name of the church to River Cities Community Church in 1993. Although methods and names may change, the message never does. To a world separated from God by sin, the unchanging message of the gospel of Jesus Christ is the only remedy. It is to that message that we have been and always will be committed.
